My fav neighbourhood teen asked for some help with making her boyfriend a lap quilt. Here she is, happy as can be, with her very accomplished piece. She was super careful and calm.
Admittedly she enjoyed the designing the most, but she made French seams on the inside and aligned the plaid perfectly. And she dropped sewing 8! A travesty! ( and the boyfriend loved it).
I made a few little sweet teething bibs. They are double sided, with small plastic snaps. I tried some metal ones, but they didn’t work well…cold, heavy, and hard to snap. They can also cause allergies, so therefore, comfy plastic ones.
The flannel quilt is a simple rag quilt, unlined and hand basted first so the minky fabric didn’t slip while I sewed the backing to the strip top.
Quite a busy week sewing for that new grandbaby!
Ok….number 12 and counting. And I think I love them even more as I progress. This is for my 25 yr old nephew who saw my last quilt, grabbed it, and totally buried his head in the cabbage-rose pile of the reverse side.
“I want one, only in a boy quilt.” And this was typical of all the males in my little family. They go crazy for these.
I picked the raindrop pattern because he is a painter by trade. And the silk is for me, because I love the silk crush and shimmer.
So here it is. And his parents assure me that he will love it, and actually take care of it. I know he will.
Here’s a house warming gift ready for my niece, who is just moving into her new apartment. I “bundled” a matching pillow, lap quilt, and a small mixed media piece. I have since discovered that she isn’t partial to the light green, so I might give this quilt away and make her a new one. Gotta find some blue fabric!
I am not a quilter, but somehow I caught the bug from, “Purl Bee’s lap duvet” article with fab photo instructions. So lovely. So simple.
So I have now finished a small lap duvet from a fabric remnant and a recycled silk garment from Value Village; And I have some (a zillion) 6″ squares ready to be sewn into a rag quilt. Again, many sites have instructions with photos.
I think I have a fever!
