I just unwrapped a batch of beautiful, handmade soaps for the upcoming season. No hitches or glitches, either. Perfect scents, perfect timing, and no air bubbles. Happy soap dance is in order.

Knitting again

I just finished an easy, mohair, spring weight cowl. I was going to knit it all in straight knit, but I ended up being bored with the repetition, so I added a couple of rows of yarn overs. I like it!

On the road again! This time we rented a car for $6 a day and travelled the entire country. We’d absolutely recommend it. Safe; congenial, but not overly-friendly; stunning flora and fauna; an easy paced culture; and a multitude of adventures for the novice.

I am feeling inspired to paint lately. And to cut. And to paste. My friend, Jill, introduced me to a magazine, “Cloth, Paper, Scissors”, and I have not looked back. I now am considering items in my artwork that would have likely stayed as collectibles, but not incorporated into my art. So…here you go….

Put another bird on it. Papers, carbon paper drawings, gesso, acrylic medium.

Encaustic Revisited

I seem to be compelled to expand my interest in Encaustic work. Daniella Wolfe and a newsletter from Cloth, Paper, Scissors keep fueling my intrigue. It’s truly a fascinating medium. The first is a note from a little neighbour, the third is transfers of my own photos embedded in wax, and the second is a combo of oils, gesso and encaustic waxes.

Cuba. What a beautiful little country. We were sad to have witnessed so much poverty, but we weren’t expecting the happiness expressed by most Cubans that we met.

I’m still experimenting with waxes and mixed media. My niche. Encaustic painting is a technique by which one can incorporate one medium with another, encapsulate them between layers of encaustic medium and eventually connect all into a singular art piece.

Here I am at home again after a marvelous retreat to PV. Once again, I tried my hardest to come up with some glorious work. I guess I need to revamp my expectations. Eight hrs a week is not enough to pull off anything great, but, I’m almost there!
